Members of the law firm of Givhan & Spainhour continue family traditions in the practice of law. Tom began his practice in 1951, associated John in 1976, and Elise in 1977. Tom's uncle and great-uncle and John's grandfather and uncle had been practicing attorneys. Elise is Tom's daughter, John's wife and their former partner. They have developed a successful trial and appellate practice. Elise left the firm in 2007 to become Judge of the Bullitt Circuit Court, Division II, Family Court.
The law office has continued to grow in its six decades of presence in Bullitt County and continues to serve a wide variety of individual and business clients. Its litigation practice includes personal injury, domestic relations, commercial, real estate, administrative hearings, criminal defense and appeals. It routinely assists with business organization and advice, and real estate transactions. It is truly a general practice with emphasis on litigation.
The members of the firm are all seasoned trial attorneys. This approach to law practice comes from having represented individuals and businesses, prosecution and criminal defense and plaintiffs and defendants in civil matters.
Their practice concentrates in Bullitt County and in the surrounding counties of Hardin, Nelson, Jefferson and Spencer, but they are not limited to Kentucky. John Spainhour is licensed in Tennessee.
Members of the firm remain active in professional and civic circles. The firm was recognized as law firm of the year by the Legal Aid Society of Louisville and its members continue regular involvement on charitable and public boards of directors and advising churches, libraries, and other not for profit groups.
